Parenting With Purpose (PWP) had the honor of meeting Jaylynd in 2012, when his mom reached out to us from the MN Correctional Facility in Shakopee. Jay’s mom was serving her two year sentence when she asked us to provide help for her mom who was Jay’s caregiver. It was a very challenging time for the grandma as she was working 2 jobs and raising her grandson.
Jay and his Grandma met Rob(his mentor) shortly after becoming part of PWP’s family and it’s been an adventure ever since!
Jay is now 12 years old and his connection with Rob is better than ever!
Brittany (Jays mom) shared: Jay and Rob’s relationship is very special, he’s down to earth and understanding. He is a good male role model for Jay. The effect of the mentoring relationship has been priceless! Jay has more confidence in relationships and friendships. I feel like having Rob as his mentor inspires Jay to want to help and give back to the community.
Rob (Jay’s mentor) shared: Jay is a well mannered very intelligent young man who is respectful, kind, patient and caring to every person he encounters, which is why we have continued our relationships over the years. He is a great listener too who loves to play the drums at our house when we hang out. The only problem is he is growing up too fast!
Jay is an amazing person and PWP is honored to say he is part of our family!
